Hourou Musuko: “I want to be the little girl”

Category: Manga

Genre: Slices of life, Drama, Seinen

Hourou Musuko is the history of a 5th grade boy, Shûichi Nitori, who has always been quite femenine (no he’s not gay :V just girlish), so much that the first day in a new school he’s mistaken for his 6th grade sister -YA RLY. After that, he’s taken to his classroom and ends up sittin next to this boyish girl, Yoshino Takatsuki, better known as “Takatsuki-kun”, who becomes his best friend. It’s at this moment when the real plot starts developing.

The… Interests… Of Shuichi in femenine stuff are starting to go to a new level. Yes, he likes to bake and it’s quiet and girly, but from time to time… He starts to want to look like a girl, and he’s got enough “help” to make it happen -not only that, he’s even got crossdressing partners- but it won’t be that easy and many things will take place.

Wanna know more about it? I’d spoil you, but I think you’d like to read that for yourself. This manga is a good read. Takako Shimura did a great job with the history -plus that simple, yet fluid and appealing style of drawing is great- I mean, ¿little kids with such problems at that age? I think is more likely than you think, and not only with this topic but that’s another history. It would be a lot easier for Shuu-chan and Takatsuki-kun if there wasn’t a whole social situation in their way (and we aren’t even talking about homosexuality here, go figure), but there is, and it’s very troubling for kids like them, that’s why the manga is pretty much focussed on the characters’ feelings. Of course, not all is drama and confusion, after all, it’s a heartwarming slices-of-life, and there’s plenty of room for funny stuff (Shuuichi’s sister can be a hilarious damn brat).

Sounds like a good series with some great morals that come with it. I’ll check it out, sometime. (:
